Airbnb has named the most popular travel destinations for winter 2024. The list is based on searches worldwide between January 1 and September 15, 2023 for destinations this coming winter. Large cities in Asia and South America in particular dominate the list. In this article you can read more about the ten most popular travel destinations for winter.

Osaka, Japan

Japan’s third largest city tops Airbnb’s list of popular winter destinations. Until now, the Osaka has been overshadowed by Tokyo, but it now really seems that the travelers have opened their eyes to Osaka. Osaka is often referred to as the kitchen or food capital of Japan. Osaka is also the perfect starting point for exploring the Kansai region.

Hong Kong, China

Hong Kong is a vibrant metropolis with world-renowned cuisine, skyscrapers with magnificent views, bustling markets and fantastic hikes in the nearby mountains. Don’t miss Victoria Peak, the iconic peak of Hong Kong Island with the coolest view of the city. Also visit the bustling street markets of Mong Kok in the heart of Hong Kong, as well as SoHo – Hong Kong Island’s center of international life.

Quebec, Canada

Is this Canada’s most beautiful city? Quebec has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1985, and for good reason. Québec has an incredible history that dates back to 1608 and fantastic natural areas that are perfect for skiing in the winter. If you decide to travel to Québec during the winter, you must not miss the famous winter carnival. Here you will experience the magical spirit of the city.

Taipei, Taiwan

Taipei is the Asian metropolis where modern skyscrapers are dotted with historic temples. On your trip to Taipei, don’t miss the city’s night markets and Taipei 101, one of the world’s most beautiful skyscrapers. The best place to shop is in Ximending, one of Taipei’s liveliest shopping districts.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

A vibrant city life, lovely beaches, dramatic mountains, football and a world-famous carnival. Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Stroll around the artistic district of Santa Teresa, stroll along Ipanema beach, put on your high heels or pointy patent leather shoes in the Lapa neighborhood for a rhythmic samba night.

Hanover, Germany

The capital of the German state of Lower Saxony offers an old quarter with half-timbered houses, large churches and beautiful squares. The river Leine runs along the city, and at the artificial lake Maschsee there is a fantastic atmosphere.

Wanaka, New Zealand

A perfect small town for adventurous travelers who want to experience scenic surroundings with sparkling lakes, snow-capped mountains and fabulous forests. Roy Peak is one of New Zealand’s greatest hikes, so lace up your best shoes and set off on an adventure.

Sao Paolo, Brazil

Sao Paolo is a culinary and artistic metropolis that is often referred to as the New York of South America. One day you hang out in the financial district of Itaim Bibi, the next day you stroll around the bohemian Vila Magdalena, and the third day you relax in the Ibirapuera city park.

Muang Pattaya, Thailand

Southeast of Bangkok lies the city of Pattaya known for its beaches and vibrant city life. People come here to windsurf, snorkel, sail and enjoy the exotic environment.

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo has an atmosphere and an energy that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Despite the fact that 35 million people live here, there are few cities that are as quiet and safe to be in for tourists. Stroll around Shibuya, experience Shinjuku, immerse yourself in Japanese pop culture in Akihabara, check out the latest trends in Harajuku and feel the wings of history in Asakusa.
