Airport strike in Spain
The ground staff of the Spanish airline Iberia plan striking on the 5th-8th January, after postponing their original strike in December.
The employees are protesting against the working conditions and their dissatisfaction with the planned outsourcing of employees to other companies.
The strike will affect all 29 airports where the Spanish national airline operates its flights, involving Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Seville and Valencia.
To date, 444 flights from Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum have been cancelled. Passengers will be offered alternative flights.
Other airlines from IAG group may also influence by the strike flights, including British Airways, Level, Aer Lingus and Vueling.
Security staff strikes at Spain’s Alicante-Elche airport
Flights from the Spanish airport Alicante-Elche may be affected by delays and cancellations due to the planned strike from 1-14 January among the security personnel.
The strike takes place every day for two hours from 8.45-9.45 and from 18-19. It affects security controls and baggage handling. Therefore, as a traveler in Alicante-Elce, you should arrive in extra good time and prepare for longer queues.
Baggage and security staff strike in Milan
Travelers across Italy will experience disruption on Monday 8 January. Unions representing airport baggage staff at Milan Linate and Milan Malpensa Airport have called a strike from midnight on January 8 to midnight on January 9. This may cause delays for travelers at check-in and baggage collection.
Further delays on the same day are expected at Rome Fiumicino, Venice Marco Polo and Amerigo Vespucci in Florence as security staff also plan a 24-hour strike on January 8.
Nationwide strike in public transport in Italy
A nationwide all-day strike is planned in Italian public transport on 24 January. This can cause significant delays for travelers who are going by bus, trams and metro. However, the strike is not expected to affect regional and long-distance trains.
This same day, air traffic controllers strike from 13-17. This may cause delays and cancellations for travelers flying to and from Italy.
